Complacency is not a word that even comes close to describing the Zachary Broncos after winning the 5A state championship a year ago. They stand at No. 1 in 5A with a 18-2 record overall & their last three wins has come against Wossman, Madison Prep (on the road), Landry Walker, & a huge win versus Liberty last night after being down 15. The Broncos 3 losses came to Carver, Peabody, but the loss to Duncanville(TX) doesn't count against their overall record because it was an out of state team. One thing for sure is that the Broncos have been battled tested all season & it will definitely play big dividends for them come playoff time. One recent game that sticks out is the 64-54 win against Madison Prep on the road in a very hostile environment. The Broncos led most of the game & held a 37-31 lead at the half. But, the Chargers was able to get their first lead of the game after Dez'Mond Perkins caught a backdoor alley-hoop to put his team up 45-43 going into the fourth. The game was tied at 49 with 5:26 left in the fourth, but the Broncos went on a 15-5 run to end the game. Kaleb Huggins put the nail in the coffin for the Broncos with a viscous and-1 dunk that sent the Charger fans heading for the exits. Brandon Hardy was outstanding leading all scorers with 22 points & Jalen Bolden finished with 14 points for the Broncos. Dez'Mond Perkins was big time leading Madison Prep with 18 points.
