Last Friday morning via Twitter, Woodlawn dual-threat quarterback Rickie Collins committed to the Purdue Boilermakers. According to 247Sports, Collins is ranked the No. 15 quarterback in the country & the No. 14 player overall in Louisiana for 2023. His most notable offers are from LSU, Arkansas, Virginia Tech, Louisville, & TCU. With signing day more than over a year away, Collins felt it was time to give his pledge to a school. “When I went up there for an unofficial visit, everybody was so friendly & I love how the whole town is behind the football team,” Collins said. “Purdue was one of my first offers & they stayed communicating with me to build a bond, that meant a lot to me.” Collins has a prototype size at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds. And out of all of the talented quarterbacks in the state, Collins probably has the best arm talent regardless of class that’s not named Walker Howard. How does a kid of this status end up committing to Purdue when he had “supposedly” better options on the table??? — — Well, lead recruiter & special teams coordinator Marty Biagi has ties to Baton Rouge since his days at Southern University (2012-2014). Head Coach Jeff Brohm & his brother Brian Brohm (offensive coordinator) are former quarterbacks. Both played quarterback at the University of Louisville, but Brian Brohm was one of the best quarterbacks in the county when he starred there (2004-2007) & was drafted in the second round by the Green Bay Packers. “My relationship with coach Biagi along with coach Jeff & Brian Brohm is on a deeper level than just football,” Collins said. “The more we talked we learned there’s a lot of things that we have in common other than football. And being able to learn from coach Brian played a big factor into my decision because of his experience.” The Boilermakers coaching staff will have their work cut out for them to keep Collins apart of their 2023 class. With over a year away, many more top tier programs will get into the mix to try and steer the talented dual-threat quarterback away from West Lafayette, Indiana. Oh & by the way, Collins finished last night's game versus an undefeated St. Amant team 16 of 19 for 459 yards & 7 tuddies.
