Written by Jonrell Jones Ferdinard Young set the tone for West St. John during the first play from the scrimmage by taking it 54 yards for the first score of the game. A misplaced snap, which was also the theme of the night for the Rams, caused the score to be 6-0. The Rams scored in an assortment of ways. The Rams special teams caused Lusher to squander 3 safeties, the first one came on a block punt by 2022 rising junior Kailep Edwards. After the 1st quarter, West St. John led 8-0. The rams opened up the second quarter by forcing another safety, this time the punt sailed over the punters head. A pair of touchdown runs by R’khoby Roberson made the score 22-0 at halftime. West St. John forced a turnover on the opening 2nd half kickoff but failed to turn it into another scoring opportunity by fumbling the ball on the two-yard line. This set up the Rams defense to cause the 3rd safety of the night making the score 24-0. Hamilton once again set the Rams offense up with a great return to Lusher’s 12-yardline. This time the Rams took advantage of the opportunity, setting up a Ferdinard 1-yard touchdown pass to Kaejean Kindrick making the score 30-0 to end the 3rd quarter. Another Ferdinard and Kindrick connection made the score 37-0. The Rams capped the scoring for the night by a 3-yard run by backup quarterback Jaedon Butler made the score 44-0. West St. John was led by a stout defense the whole night. The Rams defense limited Lusher to 37 yards of total offense and 1 first down. The Rams offense totaled 318 of yards. Ferdinard was 6 of 16 for 108 yards. Roberson led the rushing attack with 10 carries for 85 yards. West St. John will play Plaquemine Green devils, while Lusher will play Capitol Lions next week. Standout junior linebacker Kailep Edwards was outstanding as expected for the Rams who finished the night with 6 tackles, 2 sacks, 3 blocked punts & a safety while only playing the first half. "It feels great to be back wit my brothers man I can’t explain it because I thought we wouldn’t have a season until the spring," Edwards said. "When we got the news that we was having a season, we was ready." Edwards is trying his best to help lead his team back to the dome, but he's adamant about getting better every week & holding everybody including himself along the way. "If we keep playing like we did last night we definitely can go far," Edwards said. "We didn’t look this good in practice earlier in the week because it was kind of sloppy. But we came out and punched them in the mouth first. We had some bad penalties tonight that we need to correct. I wasn’t looking for us to come out and look perfect but we definitely have some things to work on." Edwards expressed how he's been well aware of what is going on in the world with the murders of Breonna Taylor, Jacob Blake, George Floyd, ect. "My reason for wearing a Black Lives Matter shirt pre-game was behind the George Floyd and Breonna Taylor situation and the others that they are trying to throw under the rug," Edwards said. "I feel like the cops should be responsible for they actions because they are hear to protect and serve. Now everybody scared when they get pulled over because they don’t know if they will make it home."
