Terrebonne Names Tyler Lewis Their New Head Football Coach

After 15 seasons, the Terrebonne Tigers have a new head football coach since Gary Hill stepped down last month. 
Lewis comes in with 11 years of coaching experience with stints at his alma mater West St. John, Terrebonne, St. James, Houma Jr. High, & West Thibodaux Middle. 

“I’m very excited to get my first head coaching opportunity, especially at a place like Terrebonne,” Lewis said. “This is familiar territory for me. When the parents & the kids in the community know your character & what you’re about it makes things go a lot smoother.” 

The 30-year old Lewis expressed that there are different elements that people don’t think about when it comes to getting a program to reach it’s full potential. 

“An important element that I take very serious is being visible at our feeder schools & at the recreational games,” Lewis said. “I want to build relationships with these kids & their parents before they even get to Terrebonne. We can’t assume that these kids will just come to our school because they’re in our feeder programs.”

“Another element is academics & having real relationships with college coaches,” he said. “I was the recruiting coordinator & over academics the last two years at St. James. I took numerous of kids to college camps at every school I’ve coached at & I fully understand how this process is suppose to go.” 

One of the big components in creating a culture will be having some good assistant coaches around Lewis. 

“When you look at the top programs in the state, they have some really good assistant coaches,” Lewis said. “I want my assistants to be knowledgeable & relatable. Whether you’re 25-years old or 55-years old, I want coaches that’s all in.” 

One thing is for sure & that is that the Tigers have a talented young group of kids for Lewis to mold these next few years. 

​“We’re going to be a spread team that’s super explosive on offense with all the weapons we have here,” he said. “It’s going to start up front in the trenches though, because in 5A you have to be able to control the line of scrimmage if you want to have success.”
