Ellender & Vandebilt Catholic both came into the game 3-1 with two first year head coaches. In the first half it looked as if both teams were pretty much evenly matched tied 14-14 at the half. Vandy’s offensive line & running back Bryden Roundtree was a big reason why the Terrier’s offense clicked in the first half. Roundtree scored on a 9 yard run & Hunter Porche scored on a 3 yard run out of their wildcat formation. Both of the Patriots touchdowns came from running back Ty’Shaun Hester *Nicholls St commit* on runs of 26 & 6 yards. In the second half it was clear that the Terriers made adjustments by scoring 17 straight points in the third quarter to go up 31-14 The Terriers got scores from Roundtree scored on a 1 yard run, a 30 yard field goal from Dakota Purvis, & a 23 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Dominic Archilla to Hayes Thompson. The Patriots would respond back when Ty’Shaun Hester scored on a 17 yard swing pass from quarterback Patrick Perna ; making the score 31-21 in favor of Vandy with 10:23 left in the fourth. Late in the fourth sophomore receiver Royal Williams scored on a 56 yard punt return for the Patriots, but it was called back because of a block in the back. The Terriers defense would stay stingy the rest of the game to hold on for a 31-21 win. Vandebilt improved to 4-1 overall, 2-0 in district & will travel to Morgan City Friday. Ellender fell to 3-2 overall, 1-1 in district & will host Assumption Friday. Click the link below to checkout the highlights & interviews from the game!
