Last season the H.L Bourgeois Braves surprised some people going 6-4 overall & 4-2 in a tough 7-5A district along with a playoff birth. Sterling Washington was named interim head coach after hurricane Ida caused Twaski Anderson to resign & relocate. After an impressive season Washington had the interim tag removed. "Last season we went through a lot because of the hurricane, but I didn't want to make any excuses for these kids," Washington said. "I wanted to bring real discipline to this program from the start because that's what these kids need. I coached a lot of these kid's dads & uncles so they already know what I'm about. When a kid's family know what you stand for it makes it a little easier to get buy in." The Braves have a young talented group that Washington & his staff are very optimistic about. Here are some prospects for the Braves to keep an eye on this upcoming season. (Soph.) RB Malik Miles will be the Braves lead back this season & for years to come. He can run between the tackles & does an excellent job of catching the ball out the backfield. (Soph.) DL/OL Tyron Winslow started as a freshman last season & showed flashes that he could be a power 5 prospect when it's all said & done. At 6-foot-4, 265 pounds Winslow has all the tools to be a big time impact player this upcoming season. (JR.) ATH Jacolby Harris will go both ways & with good reason because of his athleticism to go along with his playmaking ability. He should make a big impact on both sides off the ball this season. (Soph.) OL Kentra Lacy will be the cornerstone of the Braves offensive line this season. At 6-foot-2, 270 pounds Lacy moves really well & will protect his quarterback's blindside this year. (Jr.) WR Brody Hebert will be the Braves WR1 this season. The sure handed Hebert has a large catch radius & he should be one of the Braves impact skill players on offense. (Sr.) QB Gavin Vordrick will be QB1 for the second straight season for the Braves. Vordrick is a very underrated QB in this 7-5A district. He is a big kid at 6-foot-1, 225 pounds with a strong arm & his ability to extend plays with his legs will give opposing defenses fits this season. (Sr.) WR Dajuan Barrow could be the biggest sleeper of all the Braves when we look back at the end of the season. Barrow has been a standout basketball player the last two years, but decided to give football a shot in his last year. Barrow had a really good showing at Nicholls St. camp last month & he's impressed the Braves coaching staff all summer. (Soph.) DB Riley Verdin is a really instinctive player that has a real knack for the football. The Braves should have a pretty good DB in the making these next three years if he continues to progress. Other notable names to pay attention to for the Braves are (Jr.) CB La'Quan Johnson, (Sr.) ATH Quan Harris, (Sr.) DB J'Sean Johnson, & (Sr.) kicker Brody Bergeron.
