After three seasons, Jesse Turner has decided to leave his alma mater & take over as head football coach at Convenant Christian Academy. Turner was able to lead the Patriots to the postseason two out of the three seasons & he plans to bring his new program to higher heights in the coming years.
"For me it's never a right time for a move like this," Turner said. "It's hard to walk away from the relationships I've built, but I'm looking at the opportunity for me to grow my career & present better opportunities for my family. I just felt like it was time." Convenant Christian has had it's ups & downs since their first year of existence in 2010, but Turner is confident that this program could be a gold mind in the Tri-Parish area. "I've always felt highly about Convenant Christian," he said. "It's actually where both of my kids attend & the people there have always welcomed me with open arms. I feel like athletically this program can be really special. It's going to be a process, but I honestly don't think it will take as long as people may think to get this program to be more respected around the state." At Ellender Memorial Turner has been use to having kids get recruited year in & year out, but that has not been the case for Convenant Christian over the years. Turner expressed that he wants to change that narrative going forward under his watch. "If we have capable athletes that inspire to continue their career to college, it's our job to prepare them for that," he said. "With the relationships that I've gained throughout my career, I will definitely promote my guys to get them to the next level." Turner has been a spread guy on offense for all of his coaching career, but with moving from a 4A program to a 1A program a change scheme wise could be coming. "I want to get to know the athletes first before we start diving into schemes," Turner said. " I need to watch a ton of film on the guys that's returning so I can look at our strengths & make adjustments accordingly."

As an athlete who has played for Coach Turner I have no bad comments to make about him because there really isn’t anything bad to say about him he is a excellent Coach and is there for his players at any given time when they need help and the impact Coach Turner left on the Ellender Football Family and School won’t be forgotten. If anyone can turn a football program in the right direction Coach Turner is the man for the job.
