In the wake of Hurricane Ida, the Ellender standout forward has seen the start of his senior year take an unexpected turn. Thomas & his family was heavily impacted by Hurricane Ida forcing them to be displaced to Houston, Texas. "Our house got really messed up because of the hurricane," Thomas said. "The water damaged a good bit of our stuff & it caused us to have to move. To see my mom hurt like that because we have to start over has been real tough." With Thomas & his family having to move, the next thing was to find out where he would be able to finish his senior year at. "Me and mom had been been looking at different high schools for the last few weeks," Thomas said. "I feel like Legacy School of Sports Sciences in Houston, Texas is the best situation for me. I got to visit the school & see the type of basketball program they have. I was really impressed with how they workout & how the team welcomed me when I was there." The Titans basketball program is one of the best in the Houston area after winning the 3A state championship last season. They also had seven players off their roster sign division one scholarships to Texas A&M, North Texas, Oral Roberts, McNeese St, Mt. St Mary, & Prairie View. "I'm anxious to get started there because I know the coaches there will take my game to another level," Thomas said. "They have coaches on their staff that played in college & played professionally. We're also going to be traveling all over the country playing a national schedule so I'm excited about that." The Ellender Patriots basketball team made it to the quarterfinals last season & with basically their whole team returning, many felt they would've been one of best teams in 4A to be in the mix to get to the top 28. "Even though I wanted to finish what I started at Ellender & win a state championship with my brothers, I feel like all of this happened to me for a reason," Thomas said. "I'm ready to just take advantage of this opportunity & get my name out there even more." Thomas had a really good summer on the Under Armour Circuit with Louisiana Elite picking up offers from Southern Miss, Tulane, Jacksonville University, Florida Atlantic, Texas St, McNeese St, & Southern. "Right now, I'm looking to start taking some official visits in October to Florida Atlantic, Texas St, & Southern Miss," Thomas said. "I probably won't commit to a school until after basketball season so that I can really make sure where I want to be."
