Michael Corner Jr. made it official this week committing to Southeastern University. The senior wide receiver played a vital role last season in Edna Karr’s state championship title run with 7 receiving touchdowns with many of them coming over the top of a defender’s head. Corner possesses good size at 6-2 & he uses it to his advantage often, which is why Frank Scelfo & his staff made the senior receiver a priority. Corner currently holds offers from New Mexico St, McNeese St, North Texas, Arkansas Pine-Bluff, & Alcorn St. Southeastern stood out from the rest being that they were the first program to offer Corner after his junior year. “Southeastern showed me a lot of love since day one,” Corner said. “The coaching staff text or call me almost everyday & that made me feel comfortable with them. The things they told me with how they can help me not just for football but academically meant a lot to me as well.” The Edna Karr program is consistent at getting wide receivers to the next level & Corner has fell right in line with being the next one up. “It’s wonderful to be going to college for free because opportunities like this don’t happen for everybody,” Corner said. “I worked so hard for moments like this & the Karr program really prepared me for the next level & in life. You have to have a certain type of mindset when you’re working hard everyday. But I learned that if you put your mind to it you can accomplish anything you want in life. My teammates played a big role into where I’m at today & that contributed a lot to my success.” It’s no doubt that the Southeastern program is getting a steal & I’m of the mind that Corner would have been highly sought after by bigger programs if he had hit the camp circuit more last summer. The progression that the senior receiver has shown each year since his freshman year has been tremendous. The Karr coaching staff obviously feels that Corner has turned into a big time player by awarding him with the #1 before the start of the season. And if you know the history behind certain numbers at Karr, you’d know being awarded #1 is a big deal in that program. “Man the Karr program has done so much for me since the first day I got on the team,” Corner said. “The program teaches you how to handle real life situations. It’s really a family & the program shows you how to give 110% no matter the circumstances. One of the main things that was taught to me is to be consistent everyday & I will take all of these values with me on the next level.” As crazy as it may seem, Corner’s best football is still ahead of him & I wouldn’t be surprised if he becomes a household name in that Southland conference in the coming years.
