Woodlawn struck first after Jayveon Hayes scored on a 5 yard run to give the Panthers a 7-0 lead early in the game. Destrehan would respond scoring 22 unanswered points. Jai Eugene connected with Daniel Blood for a 28-yard gain that set up the first points for the Wildcats. Eugene would would score from 2 yards out to tie the game 7-7 in the second quarter. Sophomore running back Brandon Freeman scored next on a 20-yard scamper to put the Wildcats up 13-7 going into the half. To begin the second half, the Wildcats rolled right down the field with Eugene scoring his second rushing score of the night from 7 yards out. With 9:58 left in the third quarter, the Wildcats were in control up 19-7. Will Bryant would extend the Wildcats lead with a field goal giving Destrehan a 22-7 lead with 6:41 left in the third. Woodlawn would not fold after Purdue commit Rickie Collins hit Kyle Jones for a 19-yard touchdown pass cutting the lead to 22-14. The Woodlawn defense would come up with a big fourth down stop on Destrehan’s next possession. This led to Collins scoring on a 1-yard sneak but the two point conversion was unsuccessful. Destrehan led 22-20 with 4:21 left in the fourth. Junior running back Shane Lee would put the game away breaking loose for a 34-yard touchdown run to extend Destrehan’s lead to 29-20. That would be the final dagger to put Woodlawn’s season to bed. No. 4 Destrehan will host No. 5 Ruston this Friday in the 5A quarterfinals.
