Amite secured the district championship on Friday by beating archrival St. Helena 50-18 in front of a pack crowd. The Warriors looked very impressive from the opening kickoff scoring 23 unanswered points to start the game & forcing 3 turnovers. Amite quarterback Amani Gilmore *Kentucky commit* was spectacular on the night throwing for 184 yards & 2 touchdowns to go with 141 yards rushing & 2 touchdowns. It was evident that the Warriors had the more talented team on Friday night & they showed all the signs to be ready for a deep playoff run. Amite running back Corey McKnight made his presence known throughout the whole game finishing with a 103 yards rushing & 2 touchdowns. Cam Henderson was a matchup nightmare at receiver finishing with 2 receiving touchdowns & his counterpart Devonta Lee showed his versatility finishing the game with an interception & a rushing touchdown. Amite looks like they have all the tools to be able to win class 2A this season, & I would like to think they will be the favorite going into the playoffs in a few weeks. Seniors Ishmael Sopsher (#1 ranked DT), Devonta Lee (#7 ranked ATH), Amani Gilmore, Cam Henderson, & Kyle Maxwell seem to be laser focused to get a state championship back to Amite, which hasn’t happened since 2004. With the Warriors being one of the most talented teams in the state regardless of class, it’s going to be interesting to see how it all will unfold come playoff time.

These young men were nothing short of excellent during the game. Very poised and deserving of everything coming their way! The community/fans rallyed behind their team with good vibes and Positivity. Great look for High School Football. Great article!!!
