Newman continue their hot start to the season defeating Booker T. Washington 55-22 last Thursday night that was aired on ESPN2. The Greenies struck first with a 4 yard touchdown run by Joseph Pleasant to go up 7-0. The Lions came right back with a 51 yard touchdown run by sophomore running back Arnold Barnes. Coryell Pierce would convert on a short run for the two point conversion to put his team up 8-7 in the first. Arch Manning & Sterling Scott *Harvard commit* would score the Greenies next two touchdowns giving their team a 21-8 lead with 3:03 left in first. Scott scored on an interception return & Manning on a 1 yard sneak. Arizona commit Tyrese Johnson would keep his team in it with a 42 yard touchdown run along with converting the two point conversion to cut it to 21-16. The talented junior receiver A.J Johnson would make his presence felt being on the receiving end of a terrific side arm throw from Manning for a 14 yard touchdown. The Greenies would lead at the half 28-16. Sterling Scott would take his talents to offense in the second half scoring on runs of 22 & 33 yards for the Greenies. The Greenies would run away with it midway through the fourth quarter after Manning scored his third touchdown of the game on another 1 yard sneak to extend their lead to 41-22. Manning finished the game with 253 yards passing, 3 touchdowns, & 2 INTs for the Greenies. Barnes finished the game with 145 yards rushing & 1 touchdown for the Lions.
