The No. 1 overall prospect in Louisiana for the 2023 class according to 247Sports decided to commit to Boise St. this past week. The Isidore Newman point guard currently holds offers from high major schools Ohio St, Kansas, Memphis, LSU, Baylor, Houston, Vanderbilt, Oklahoma St, & Georgetown.
"I wanted to get it out the way so that I don't have anything to worry about during the season," Lockett said. "Talking to the coaching staff a lot on my official visit & seeing their fan base made my decision easy in the last hours of the signing period."
The 6-foot-5 Lockett was in attendance when the Broncos defeated Washington St. at home, which the crowd & atmosphere made quite the impression on him. Boise St. head coach Leon Rice may have benefited from Lockett who was once a 5-star & ranked 13 overall in the country according to ESPN fell down to a 3-star over the last year.
"I really liked LSU & Baylor, but I wanted to choose a school that I knew had my best interest & that could develop me as a player," Lockett said. "Seeing their plan & them wanting me to come in to be a impact player made me feel this is the best fit."
Lockett's skill set should translate really well to the Mountain West Conference. His IQ for the game is one of his biggest strengths & he's really good off ball screens because of his ability to make the right reads. His jump shot has gotten better every year at Newman & if he can continue to improve it, he'll definitely have a great college career.
FUN FACT : Boise St. assistant coach Roberto Bergersen & Lockett's high school coach Randy Livingston played together in the G-League for the Idaho Stampede.
