When it comes to high school rivalries, Edna Karr & Landry Walker is the epitome of what a true rivalry represents. The Cougars have owned the Charging Buccaneers the previous two seasons & this year’s matchup was no different winning in convincing fashion 40-0. The Cougars started fast taking the opening kickoff back 73 yards for a touchdown by freshman Aaron Anderson. The defense is what set the tone for the Cougars early holding the Charging Buccaneers to under a 100 yards of total offense in the first half. Junior rush end Josh Randall was impressive all night with 2 sacks, 3 tackles for loss, & a bevy of quarterback pressures. The Cougar’s team speed on defense is what made things tough all night for the Charging Buccaneers holding talented running back Chad Alexander under a 100 yards for the game. First year starting quarterback Leonard Kelly was impressive on Friday night executing coach Brice Brown’s offense to perfection. Kelly connected with Dylan Hill on a 33 yard touchdown pass & a dart to Michael Corner for a 6 yard touchdown pass. Running back Ronnie Jackson stole the show with an impressive performance rushing for 246 yards & 2 touchdowns on 20 carries. Jackson punished defenders countless times & also showed some breakaway speed pulling away from the defense on a few runs. The 1-2 punch with running backs Ronnie Jackson & Ahmad Antoine took a toll on the Charging Buccaneers defense all night long. Even though the Cougars won in convincing fashion against archrival Landry Walker, I think their best football still lies ahead going forward.
