The defending 4A state champions overcame Ellender’s third quarter rally after being up 20 points. The Patriots was able to cut into the lead trailing 49-44 after a long three pointer by senior Nykee Johnson. But the Tigers were able to withstand the run because of some key baskets by senior Deandre Hypolite who scored 7 points in the fourth quarter. The Tigers looked like they would run away with this one after leading 33-17 at the half. Junior Kyser Patt was a big reason why the Tigers were able to jump out on the Patriots with 13 points in the first half that included three 3-pointers. Hot shooting from behind the arc was the difference for the Tigers connecting on eight 3-pointers for the game. If the Tigers can continue to shoot the ball at a high level & control the glass the way that they usually do, they should have a legitimate shot to repeat as 4A state champions. Senior Deandre Hypolite led all scorers with 21 points & 13 rebounds for the Tigers. Junior Kyser Patt finished with 17 points & senior Dalton Alexander added 16 points. Sophomore Dionjahe Thomas & senior Nykee Johnson led Ellender with 16 points a piece. Breaux Bridge will take on number 7 Salmen Friday night at home with the chance to make it back to the top 28 for the second year in a row.
