Boutte -- The Hahnville Tigers came out firing and never looked back. Behind dynamic RB Fabian Celestine & a sharp performance from quarterback Landen Teague to go with a swarming defensive effort, Hahnville defeated Thibodaux 34–20 on Friday night in a clash of 5A powers that lived up to the hype. Hahnville wasted no time setting the tone. On the game’s opening drive, Teague connected with Bennett Naquin on a perfectly placed 52-yard touchdown strike down the right sideline to put the visiting Tigers up 7–0 with 6:16 left in the first quarter. Thibodaux gambled early, going for it on 4th down from its own 43, but Hahnville’s defense came up with a big stop to preserve the lead. Thibodaux appeared to swing momentum later when linebacker Connor Jarreau intercepted a pass, but a penalty for a hit on a defenseless receiver wiped out the turnover. Quarterback Damien Robertson kept his team in it, however, firing a slant to Khyren Folse, who turned it upfield for a 38-yard touchdown early in the second quarter. The extra point missed, leaving Hahnville ahead 7–6. Special teams trickery nearly extended Hahnville’s lead when the Tigers faked a punt and converted deep into Thibodaux territory, but Thibodaux’s defense stood tall again, stopping the drive at the 3-yard line. Moments later, Hahnville’s defense made its own stand—recovering a fumble near midfield. That turnover set up a 28-yard field goal by Myles Borey, making it 10–6 with 1:28 left before halftime. Hahnville came out of the locker room with purpose. Teague capped the first drive of the second half with a 2-yard quarterback sneak for a touchdown, stretching the lead to 17–6. Minutes later, Naquin—proving he could do it all—added a 21-yard touchdown run to make it 24–6. Defensive back Brayden Fontenot then delivered the dagger, jumping a route and returning an interception 27 yards to the house, putting Hahnville firmly in control at 31–6 late in the third quarter. Thibodaux continued to battle. Robertson found Camarri Carto for a 32-yard touchdown early in the fourth, but the two-point try failed. Borey’s second field goal of the night, this one from 38 yards, pushed Hahnville’s lead to 34–12 with just over two minutes left. Robertson and Folse connected again in the closing seconds—this time from 29 yards—followed by a successful two-point conversion to make the final score 34–20. Despite the loss, Thibodaux showed fight down the stretch, while Hahnville’s ability to finish drives and capitalize on mistakes proved decisive. “We wanted to start fast and stay disciplined,” said Hahnville head coach Greg Boyne. “We executed in all three phases tonight—offense, defense, and special teams. That’s what it takes to win district games like this.” With both teams sitting at 5–1, Friday’s matchup could very well be a preview of playoff intensity still to come.
